Argosy Manual & Lister Domestic Water Pump Compatibility List

This analysis is based on the components found in a customers Argosy pump No. C32156 and Lister type 187 pump No. 60845 from plant No. 99446.

Both pumps were sourced from eBay with no known history, so originality cannot be confirmed.

Consider this a guide only as it is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate.

NOTE 1: The Lister and Argosy connecting rods are very similar, differing in the material from which they are made (Argosy = bronze, Lister = cast iron), the width of the big end (the Lister journal is approximately 0.1” narrower), and the size of the small end gudgeon pin (Argosy ⁷/₁₆”, Lister ½”). The Argosy con rod small end and crosshead would need to be bored out to accept the larger Lister pin.

NOTE 2: The Lister and Argosy plunger rods are both 3/8” diameter, BUT the Lister thread is BSF and the Argosy is BSW making all screwed components including the crosshead non-interchangeable unless remedial work is carried out to correct the difference in thread pitch. A complete Lister con rod/crosshead/plunger rod assembly would fit the Argosy as the assembled lengths are virtually identical, though a degree of side play in the connecting rod big end would need to be accepted or remedied.

NOTE 3: The Lister gland assembly is of different design to that of the Argosy, but a complete gland assembly would probably be interchangeable between the two pumps if the old one can be removed.

NOTE 4: The Lister leather plunger cups are the same outside diameter as the Argosy parts, but have a smaller centre hole. Lister cups could probably be opened out with a wad punch to fit the Argosy plunger assembly.

Note A: The Lister air chamber is taller than the Argosy, though the flange which mates with the valve plate and pump body is of the same profile. A Lister air chamber could be substituted if the fixing stud were removed and a longer one, or a Lister bolt fitted.

Lister D Piston Assembly - +0.020 Oversize

What can I say it's a new original piston and rings . I didn't actually need it ,but there were only 3 in stock I bought it for future use. Try find another one.
