The Petter PK3 was developed to be a replacement 44HP engine for the PJ3 which at the time was considered to be under powered for Thwaites dumper applications. As it happens it turned out the problem wasn't with the power output of the PJ3 engine at all but actually the axle ratio’s of the dumpers they were being fitted to was wrong. It was deemed by Thwaites to be cheaper to change the dumper axle ratios than to take up a new engine design meaning the axle ratio's were modified and the new Petter PK3’s were never fitted.The then redundant Petter PK3 engines were adapted by Petter’s for generator applications. Only 100 PK3’s were ever made/sold as such demand for these sets isn't going to be very high at all. However, if you own a PK3 you have just struck lucky!
